Swords and Sorcerers Aplenty! Fall events scheduled for NERO Mass, Live Action Roleplaying Adventures

Founding chapter of NERO Game System announces fall season of events for Brimfield, MA.

Brimfield, MA July 28, 2004 -- NERO Massachusetts/Ravenholt, the founding chapter of the more than fifteen year old live action roleplaying organization, the New England Roleplaying Organization, has confirmed dates for three weekend events during the fall season, to be held at the Springfield Boys Club Camp in Brimfield, Massachusetts, just outside of Sturbridge Village.

In its 15th season, NERO Massachusetts represents one of the longest-running LARP (Live Action Role Playing) storylines in the US, with an ongoing live history that is expanded by participants from event to event. Since its inception in 1989, NERO has grown to have more than 30 chapters internationally, with a world cosmology in which all chapters are integrated through shared plotlines and fantasy geography and mythos, allowing players to travel from chapter to chapter, playing the same characters and having a common world history. The NERO Game System is designed to provide a family-oriented activity, where teens and parents can fight along side one another as a team, or find themselves at the ends of one anothers swords as enemies on the field. As a family game, NERO emphasizes several core rules, including a strict ban on alcohol and drug use at our events, and avoidance of all religious references, despite their emphasis in true medieval history.

NERO Massachusetts events are scheduled for the long Labor Day weekend (September 3rd through 6th), and for the weekends of October 1st through 3rd and Halloween weekend (October 29th through 31st). NERO events are held throughout the U.S. and Canada each weekend, with gatherings ranging from 20 to 200 participants gathering to take part in a medieval fantasy adventure in which they can be heroes, villains, or anything in between. With a boffer combat system in which foam covered swords are used to simulate the epic battles of yore, and with magic and mystery galore, these events are a cross between an improvisational theatre project and a renaissance faire, where there is no audience, only active participants. Players take on the personas of elves, dwarves, and other mysterious creatures of mythos, or play townsfolk and monsters, such as goblins, ghouls, and skeletons. All participants share in creating a willing suspension of disbelief, that puts them in a medieval village combating evil and saving the day. NEROs motto is Be all you cant be!

The themes of these events range from medieval faire and heroic tournament (as the Labor Day event will be), to dark and deadly hauntings (as the Halloween event will be). No prior experience is needed to join, and there are new player training sessions at each event.
